Every knowledge and wisdom we need to survive as a people are neatly infused in our proverbs, idioms, anecdotes, epigrams and folklore by our wise ancestors. Western education is good but they don't have answers to some of our spiritual and social problems.
It is a common saying in Biafra land that "He that is surrounded by multitude of enemies has to protect himself always" (Onye ndi iro gbara gburu gburu, na-eche ndu ya nche). This was also part of part of the slogans in the jingle used by our broadcaster Okoko Ndem in Radio Biafra during the Biafra-Nigeria uncivil war of 1967-1970. This jingle was played every morning or evening before the morning or evening news throughout the period of that war.
The post-election violence that erupted in Lagos after Bola Ahmed Tinubu of APC party lost Lagos State to Mr. Peter Obi's Labour Party, has continued unabated.
The DSS, the military and police all pretend not to know what is happening. About 5 Igbo-dominated markets razed down completely with threats from some glorified political, touts, gangsters, glutton and sycophants on social, electronics and print media calling for the head of Igbo people should they vote according to their conscience. Still no one has been arrested. A lot of Igbos were molested during the election yet no arrest or summon by DSS, police and the military.
There is a silent war going in Lagos all because of the political power tussle between the APC and LP. As usual, the Igbo man has become the sacrificial lamb for Nigeria sins and atrocious political activities.
This is time to activate self-defence everywhere we are. Our neighbourhood watch techniques must be replicated in all the Igbo-dominated market all around the country. This not the time to leave the security of the market in the hands of strangers of few vigilante members. This is security issues, so our people should go inside and come out with a workable module for all the markets both within and outside Biafra land. They should come out with the blueprint to safeguard the lives and properties of our people across Nigeria.
Anyone calling for sit-at-home protest in Lagos by Igbos at this time is very myopic and mischievous in his reasoning. In a situation where our markets are being burnt down without any arrest, you are being asked by someone outside Nigeria to lock yourself inside your house in a sit-at-home protest. Well that protest has nothing to do with the global family of IPOB. You have to safeguard your business now and think towards relocating your headquarters to Biafra land, while we wait for peaceful or violent unwinding of the British rogue state called Nigeria, depending on the option Nigeria throws to us.
We are not a coward race, we fought against world powers during the civil war, so if any tribe want to go down with us, they should get ready. We cannot run away from our responsibilities forever.
Time to stand up and defend our land is now, and not time for sit-at-home. The sit-at-home is a ploy to use Yoruba media to link Peter Obi to IPOB membership and an opportunity to burn down the remaining Igbo-dominated markets while they are indoors observing sit-at-home.
A word is enough for the wise.
