I was moved by the ongoing campaign on several social platforms, urging our people to go back to our roots. Unfortunately, some of those people calling our people back to our roots know little of nothing about our roots or what I may call ANCIENT PATH; the way our ancestors followed, in the worship of Chukwu Okike and they were abundantly blessed and highly favoured to rule the entire world as ancient people; Ndi gboo.
Many of younger demography were being misled to believe that some of the Nollywood movies were actually showcasing our traditional culture, when in reality they are not. They are actually distorting our culture and traditions.
Going back to our roots; does our root include encouraging laziness and its attendant Yahoo-Yahoo criminality and money-making rituals through "ibu Okite"?
Does our root include celebrating criminals whose source of wealth cannot be verified?
Does our root include fighting to defend our Chi with the tendency for conquest into our own religion?
Does our root tolerate and promote domestic violence and divorce?
Does our roots or traditional culture encourage kingship tussle?
Do people choose to serve the gods or the gods choose people to serve both the people and gods in African traditional society?
Do our ancestors make provision for the Prince and Princess in the kingdom to address and even rebuke the elders of our land?
As much as I know and as someone who had privilege of growing up in my community, we do not celebrate criminals. You are only celebrated by our people if your source of wealth is verified. We celebrate bravery, might and strength. That is why we have Ogbuagu, Ezeji, Ezeuzu, Okamgba, Omenka etc.
Kingship was never an issue in my own community, the eldest man is head of the community. The fraud known today as Igwe who receives certificate from politicians is alien to our culture.
Women's right was, and is duly protected through Umuada institution.
In our culture, the gods choose men to serve as chief priest or priestess, mediator and spiritual director of the community. What we see today are people misguiding our youth as spiritual directors, leading them astray to money making rituals and “Okite”.
What we see today are men who ambush our young girls diabolically into early and forceful marriage and many of them are victims of one ailment or the other in search of traditional healing.
Let us take an admonition from the scriptures.
Jeremiah 6:6 "Thus saith the LORD, stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, we will not walk therein.
Yes, I like going back to our roots, because we are holy people, a chosen nation of royal priesthood, the only people whose traditional culture (Odinani, Omenani and Nsoani) are well documented in the Pentateuch; the first five book of the Holy Bible.
The restoration of Biafra will bring not only economic, technological, but spiritual revival globally. We are going to take the true worship of "Ihe Chi Uwa " to the white people.
We are the people of the book.
